Expressionist Techniques

Making expressionist art often involved a lot of swirling and round shapes. This is may be because the paintings are still supposed to show the real world, which has a lot of roundish shapes especially around the time expressionism was at its height. Most expressionists used very thick brushes for their paintings and would paint in big strokes instead of smaller more delicate strokes. This is because it gives a very raw feeling to the painting as if the painter put his ideas directly onto the canvas. Colour is also an important part to expressionism. Colours were almost never blended together in the paintings to once again give a very raw feeling to the painting. Expressionists would almost never try to "correct" anything that happened to the painting unintentionally.
